Rainbow and Scaly-breasted Lorikeets

The other day I spent a while watching these birds at dusk. At first there were only two Rainbow Lorikeets (Trichoglossus haematodus), but then came a parade of late arrivals until it was a family gathering complete with distant cousins (a couple of Scaly-breasted Lorikeets [Trichoglossus chlorolepidotus]).

They were noisy. Communicated with one another in shrieks and caws. Feasted on the nectary golden blossoms of a cocos palm. Had an altercation with the noisy miners on the neighbouring tree. Returned to the family seat. And finally, darted off into the sunset.
